# Even Minor Misalignment Reduces Bearing Performance and Service Life

## Even Minor Misalignment Reduces Bearing Performance and Service Life

In precision machine building, alignment tolerances are measured in fractions of a micron. Even a small misalignment between a bearing’s inner and outer rings leads to uneven load distribution, local overheating, and accelerated wear.

## Causes of Misalignment

- Manufacturing errors in the housing and shaft
- Thermal deformations during operation
- Elastic deformations from loads
- Wear of mounting surfaces

## Solutions

Self-aligning bearings are used, which compensate for small angular deviations. Spherical roller bearings are employed. Careful alignment during assembly and regular alignment checks are recommended.
