# Dust, Metal Particles, and Coolants Contaminate Bearings

## Dust, Metal Particles, and Coolants Contaminate Bearings

During machining, a significant amount of metal shavings, dust, and coolant aerosols are generated. These contaminants penetrate bearings, causing abrasive wear, corrosion, and lubricant degradation.

## Sources of Contamination

- Metal shavings and dust
- Coolants and emulsions
- Abrasive particles from tools
- Wear debris from other components

## Solutions

Bearings with enhanced seals (labyrinth, contact type) are used. Bearings with built-in protective washers are applied. Regular lubricant replacement and use of coolant filters are recommended. For highly contaminated environments, stainless steel housed bearings are suitable.
