# Shaft Misalignment and Deflection Due to Structural Deformation and Installation Tolerances

## Shaft Misalignment and Deflection Due to Structural Deformation and Installation Tolerances

Wind turbines are subject to significant deformation of the nacelle, tower, and foundation under wind loads and their own weight. This leads to shaft misalignment and uneven load distribution on bearings.

## Causes of Misalignments

- Deformation of tower and nacelle under wind loads
- Installation and alignment errors
- Shaft deflection from rotor weight
- Structural thermal deformation

## Solutions

Self-aligning roller bearings that compensate for angular misalignments are used. Spherical roller bearings with two rows of rollers are applied. Regular alignment checks and adjustments during maintenance are recommended.
