# High Loads on Wind Turbine Bearings from Wind Forces and Rotor Mass Due to Large Blades

## High Loads from Wind Forces and Rotor Mass Due to Large Blades

Modern wind turbines have rotors with diameters up to 200 meters and more. The rotor mass together with blades reaches hundreds of tons, while wind loads create significant dynamic forces on bearings.

## Sources of Loads

- Static load from rotor weight (up to 500 tons)
- Dynamic loads from wind gusts
- Centrifugal forces from blade rotation
- Shock loads during sudden wind gusts

## Solutions

High-load spherical roller bearings are used. Bearings with optimized roller geometry are applied for uniform load distribution. It is recommended to use preloaded bearings to increase rigidity.
