# Electrical Erosion and Stray Current Damage in Generator Bearings

## Electrical Erosion and Stray Current Damage in Generator Bearings

Stray currents occur in wind turbine generators, passing through the bearings. These currents cause electrical erosion — micro-melts on the surfaces of raceways and rollers, leading to accelerated wear.

## Causes of Current Generation

- Induced currents from the generator's magnetic field
- Static electricity
- Interference from frequency converters
- Improper grounding

## Solutions

Bearings with electrical insulation are used: ceramic coating on the outer ring or ceramic rollers. Bearings with an aluminum oxide insulating layer are applied. Installation of slip rings and shaft grounding is recommended.
