# Insufficient Lubricant Film Formation During Start-Up, Stop, and Variable Speed Operations

## Insufficient Lubricant Film Formation During Start-Up, Stop, and Variable Speed

During start-up, stop, and variable-speed operation, electric motor bearings do not form a sufficient lubricant film. This leads to increased friction, wear, and accelerated degradation of contact surfaces.

## Causes of Insufficient Lubrication

- Low rotational speed during start-up and stop
- Variable speed under frequency control
- Insufficient lubricant quantity
- High lubricant viscosity at low temperatures

## Solutions

Bearings with optimized geometry for boundary friction conditions are used. Lubricants with low friction coefficients are employed. It is recommended to use bearings with polymer retainers to reduce friction.
